Istanbul Airport has achieved great success by being presented with the "Airport of the Year" award again this year, after their success in 2021 at the "2021 Air Transport Awards", one of the most prestigious publications in the global aviation industry.

As one of the leading airports in the world, Istanbul Airport has been presented with consecutive awards from prestigious institutions and was selected as the "Airport of the Year" at the “Air Transport Awards” ceremony, which evaluates and presents awards in 14 different categories within the aviation industry.

The winners were determined by vote, with more than 4,000 readers and leading executives within the aviation industry taking part in this voting, which was held by the aviation authorities. Some of the winners of this competition from previous years include Singapore Changi, Dubai, Lisbon, and Doha Airports. Istanbul Airport is the second airport to win the competition in consecutive years after Singapore Changi Airport.

The winners are selected by airport experts...

While the "2021 Air Transport Awards" are organised annually in cooperation with Hermes - Air Transport Organisation, ATN (Air Transport News), and ALA (America Latina Aeronoticias), leading aviation industry organisations, such as Airports Council International (ACI), International Civil Aviation Organisation  (ICAO), and International Air Transport Association (IATA) also serve in the selection committee.

The voting process for Air Transport News is held every year by airport experts from around the world, whose opinions on travel are highly sought, and who provide valuable insight on issues such as travel and accommodation. The award ceremony, in which Istanbul Airport was selected as the "Airport of the Year", was held in Greece. The award was received by Kadri Samsunlu, the CEO of iGA on behalf of Istanbul Airport.

"Istanbul Airport has won the Airport of the Year award for the second time, leaving the other airports in the world behind."

Commenting on the "Airport of the Year" award presented to Istanbul Airport once again at the 2022 Air Transport Awards, Kadri Samsunlu, the CEO of iGA, said, "In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have managed to continue our operations at the same speed as before without any problems. Although we are a young organisation, we have become the most resilient airport in the world through our dynamic structure, our infrastructure which is suitable for technological developments, and our work leading the aviation industry. In line with this approach and our mission to represent Turkey in the aviation industry, we have never ceased investing. Furthermore, we are continuing our path by incorporating new airlines. As a result of these efforts, we are proud to have received awards from international aviation authorities. We are delighted to have been given yet another international award on behalf of Turkey, the award of "Airport of the Year" which we have won two years in a row, and which is awarded by the aviation industry experts and readers at the annual Air Transport Awards. Being chosen for this valuable award for the second time in a row, coming ahead of many airports across the world, is the biggest proof that we are succeeding with our Istanbul Airport project."

Dr. Kostas Iatrou, the Director-General and CEO of Air Transport News said: "iGA Istanbul Airport has shown a remarkable level of resilience and efficiency over the last two years. I congratulate them on their success."
