Floripa Airport Reaches 1 Million International Passengers Two Months Earlier Than in 2025

Floripa Airport welcomed its one-millionth international passenger of 2026 on August 22, reaching the milestone approximately two months earlier than in 2025, when the same volume was only achieved in October.

Argentina remains Floripa Airport’s leading international market in 2026, accounting for 485,000 passengers through August. Chile follows with 388,000 travelers on routes between Florianópolis and Santiago. Meanwhile, services to Lisbon and Panama jointly carried more than 95,000 passengers during the same period, highlighting the strategic role these connections play in linking Santa Catarina to Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.

To support this growth, Zurich Airport Brasil is investing BRL 19 million in the expansion and modernization of the terminal’s international facilities. Of this amount, BRL 13 million is allocated to infrastructure upgrades, while BRL 6 million will fund the installation of nine e-gates, enabling automated passport control and a more efficient passenger processing experience.

The project includes an 824-square-meter expansion of the international departures and arrivals areas, new passenger waiting spaces, additional restrooms, including a family restroom, and a new 510-square-meter walk-through Duty Free store. The international lounge will also be expanded, doubling its size to 330 square meters. In addition, the development includes three new food and beverage outlets.

Immigration and security screening areas will also undergo upgrades. Six immigration e-gates and three emigration e-gates will be installed, allowing Brazilian passengers to complete entry and exit procedures independently. New X-ray screening equipment will further increase international passenger processing capacity by 50%.

These enhancements align with the expansion of air service in two strategic international markets. Since July, TAP Air Portugal has increased its Lisbon service to four weekly frequencies, while Copa Airlines will expand its Panama operation to six weekly flights starting in December and will offer daily service in January 2027. These developments further strengthen Santa Catarina’s connectivity with Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.
