Best August on Record: Natal Airport Reports 21% Growth in Passenger Traffic

Natal Airport, located in São Gonçalo do Amarante and operated by Zurich Airport Brasil, recorded a 21% increase in passenger traffic in August compared to the same month in 2025. The airport handled 242,600 passengers across arrivals and departures, achieving its strongest August performance since opening in 2014. August also marked the fourth month in 2026 in which passenger traffic growth exceeded 20%, reinforcing the airport’s positive growth trend.

Of the total recorded in August, 227,900 passengers traveled on domestic services, representing an 18% increase compared to August 2025. International traffic reached 14,600 passengers, up 76% year over year.

July also delivered strong results and, like August, recorded the best performance for the month since the airport began operations. The airport handled 250,900 passengers (+15%), including 236,000 domestic passengers (+13%) and 14,800 international passengers (+54%).

During July and August, São Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Lisbon ranked among Natal Airport’s leading source markets. To meet increased demand during the mid-year holiday period, airlines operated 176 additional flights across the two months.

During the same period, Natal Airport also welcomed direct services between Natal and Montevideo, operated by <GOL Linhas Aéreas>, further strengthening the connectivity of Rio Grande do Norte with South America. The weekly route is scheduled to return during the upcoming summer high season.

First Half of 2026

Natal Airport recorded its best first-half passenger performance since opening in May 2014, handling 1,387,440 passengers during the first six months of 2026, an 18% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The result also established a new milestone for Rio Grande do Norte, representing the highest passenger traffic recorded during a first-half period at any airport in the state since 2002, according to data from ANAC.

Route Network Expansion

Natal Airport currently offers 17 domestic and international destinations, with nonstop services to Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo (Guarulhos, Congonhas, Viracopos, Presidente Prudente, São José do Rio Preto, and Ribeirão Preto), Belo Horizonte (Confins), Uberlândia, Lisbon, Buenos Aires (Ezeiza and Aeroparque), and Montevideo.

Recently, <Azul Linhas Aéreas> announced new nonstop services connecting Natal with Goiânia and Curitiba, further enhancing connectivity between Rio Grande do Norte and Brazil’s Central-West and Southern regions. The routes are already on sale and will operate between December 2026 and January 2027.

In addition, announced the launch of a new nonstop route between Natal and Buenos Aires starting in December. The Argentine capital is already served from Natal by both <GOL Linhas Aéreas> and .

Infrastructure Investments

Since assuming management of Natal Airport in February 2024, has invested approximately BRL 59 million in the airport’s infrastructure.

Enhancements include modernization of the air conditioning system, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, the installation of a multi-sensory room, a pet-friendly area, upgraded wayfinding signage, and the opening of VIP lounges. In sustainability, a key milestone is the implementation of a solar power plant featuring 11,000 photovoltaic panels, a project that will make the airport self-sufficient in electricity generation.
