BORDEAUX AIRPORT TRAFFIC UPDATE

International routes boosts growth, with traffic up 10% in November 2011

November at Bordeaux Airport saw the continuation of the positive trends observed over the last few years: 298,000 passengers passed through the airport, a 10% increase on the figures for November 2010. Although still suffering from the aftershocks of the Arab Spring, chartered holiday flights are still growing. Meanwhile, scheduled flights are leading the way with an increase of 6.5% on domestic routes and 20.4% for international destinations! Bordeaux will be, in 2011 again,
far and away the fastest-growing large regional airport in France, with other airports in this category posting growth figures ranging from 0.2 to 6.8%.

International traffic was up 20.4% in November, providing a significant boost to the Airport’s total traffic figures. Destinations served by more than one carrier have seen a spectacular expansion: Marrakesh is up 21.6% (Royal Air Maroc and Jet4you), London Gatwick +25.8% (British Airways and easyJet), Madrid +68.1% (Iberia and easyJet), Lisbon +88.1% (Air France and TAP), and Barcelona +130.2% (Air France and Vueling). Since the end of October there are also two Rome services, with both Air France to Fiumicino and Ryanair to Ciampino. A new Bordeaux – Morocco route was also launched in November, with Jet4you now offering direct flights to Agadir.

Although political upheaval in the Mediterranean has slowed down growth somewhat, chartered services have helped holiday flights to keep growing, posting a 2.4% rise in traffic.

National flights recorded a 6.3% increase in traffic this November, with 206,000 passengers.  Connections to Paris (Orly and Charles de Gaulle for a total of 127,180 passengers) saw an increase of 3.2%. In spite of a 7.4% drop in passengers jetting off to Nice, most inter-city services saw a marked increase in traffic, with Marseille in particular (+31.4%) benefitting from a new price deal and an increased number of seats from Air France.
