Air Transport News Awards 2016

“Best Airport” under 10 million

At a gala evening in Salzburg this weekend, Bordeaux Airport received the “Best Airport” under 10 million award presented by the trade magazine Air Transport News. This distinction was the outcome of an assessment by a panel of senior executives from the aeronautical and air transport industry.

Chairman of the Management Board and Director of Bordeaux Airport, Pascal Personne said: We welcome this award as further recognition of the efforts we have made to expand our traffic. In 6 years, passenger numbers at Bordeaux Airport have risen from 3.3 million in 2009 to 5.3 million in 2015, average growth of 10%. Our airport is now recognized well beyond French borders.”

This is a major achievement for Bordeaux in the global context of air transport, thanks to its strategy geared towards low cost flights and the opening of the billi terminal in 2010. But not solely for these reasons. The traditional scheduled airlines also boast very good results. Last year, 90 of the 94 routes operated recorded an increase in traffic.

Pascal Personne thanked all the airport staff for their commitment and professionalism boosting the airport’s strong growth. “We can only win as a team,” he said. Bordeaux was in first position in this airport category, alongside the largest airports in the world like Abu Dhabi (10 to 30 million passengers category), Istanbul (Special Mention) and Munich (Lifetime Achievement Award to CEO, Dr Michael Kerkloh).
