+11.3% growth in April

Monthly Traffic Statistics

Traffic at Bordeaux Airport increased +11.3% compared to 2015, with 493.000 passengers. The indicators from this first month of the summer flight schedule are all positive: international traffic grew +12% with 235.830 passengers. National traffic increased +10.8% with 257.145 passengers. Low-cost flights greatly contributed to overall growth, increasing +18.2% with 224.600 passengers. April was marked by the famous Bordeaux Métropole Marathon, which attracted nearly 18.000 runners.

Scheduled international traffic showed strong growth in this first month of summer: +11.7% with 230.000 passengers. Traffic to hubs remained strong: Charles de Gaulle (Air France) with 53.740 passengers for +2.7%, Amsterdam (KLM) with 29.000 passengers for +6.1%, London (British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair) with 37.500 passengers for +7%, Rome (Air France, Ryanair) 8.400 passengers for +11%, Casablanca (Royal Air Maroc, Jetairfly) 8.200 passengers for +4.6%.

Services to Dubrovnik (+190%), Munich (+90%), Olbia (+86%), Pisa (+81.5%), and Prague (+81%), all served by Volotea, showed the strongest growth rates.

In addition, the new direct service to Berlin (easyJet) was launched successfully, with 4.000 passengers in April.

Scheduled domestic traffic also showed strong growth: 254.170 passengers for +10%. This trend was driven by interregional routes to Lille, 14.635 passengers (+25%), Lyon, 43.690 passengers (+7.1%), Marseille, 21.860 passengers (+27%), and Nice, with 14.610 passengers (+6%). The Orly Shuttle registered 82.575 passengers (+4.8%). Flights to Chalair destinations, increased for the peak season, also showed strong growth: Brest +46% and Rennes +60%.

In addition, the recent launch of new Chalair routes to Caen and Montpellier was met with success. The company’s 19-seat aircrafts transported 605 passengers in April.

Low-cost activity grew +18.2% with 224.600 passengers. Volotea showed strong growth (+50%) due in particular to the reopening of summer routes. easyJet, the leading low-cost company in Bordeaux, and Ryanair, also increased, with growth of +16% with 138.360 passengers and +9.4% with 29.590 passengers, respectively.

April was also marked by the launch of 4 new routes: to Alicante and Split with Volotea on 10 April, and to Barcelona and Venice with easyJet on 15 and 17 April.

Another highlight was the start of services to Madrid with Iberia Express on 1st May and to Hamburg with ASL Airlines on 5 May.
