Tenth anniversary of the Hamburg – Dubai route

.

It’s celebration time at Hamburg Airport: Today, Hamburg Airport and Emirates are looking back at ten successful years since the establishment of the non-stop service between Hamburg and the world city of Dubai. Since 1 March, 2006, Emirates has been carrying passengers from northern Germany to Dubai in just six hours – and from there, onwards to more than 150 destinations. The route is currently served twice daily with modern Boeing B777-300 aircraft, each carrying up to 364 passengers.

“We congratulate Emirates on this great anniversary and the development of the route. Emirates is a reliable partner for Hamburg Airport. The double-daily non-stop service to Dubai, operated by Boeing 777-300s, makes the airport optimally connected to Emirates’ international hub, which offers our passengers onward connectivity to 54 countries in Asia, Australia, and Africa. The continuing success of the Dubai route also shows that there is a promising market for long-haul routes in Hamburg”, says Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport.

“Germany is one of our most important European markets and we are proud to complete ten years of successful operations into Hamburg. The Hanseatic City is a key destination within our global network and we have recorded healthy seat load factors on the route, both outbound and inbound, since we launched it in 2006. This clearly demonstrates travelers’ demand for Emirates’ unique product and service and our commitment to the market”, says Thierry Antinori, Emirates’ Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.

“Our double-daily Hamburg flights provide passengers from the North of Germany with great travel flexibility, whether for leisure or business, allowing them to seamlessly connect to popular destinations in Asia, Africa, Indian Ocean, Australia and New Zealand with only one stop at our efficient Dubai hub. Passengers on Emirates’ flights from Hamburg enjoy the famed hospitality of our multi-national Cabin Crew, gourmet cuisine and our award-winning inflight entertainment system with more than 2,200 on-demand channels”, adds Volker Greiner, Emirates’ Vice President North & Central Europe.

Successful passenger and freight route
A total of around 11,380 flights have been flown on the Hamburg – Dubai route since its inception in 2006, carrying some 2.85 million passengers. The freight and post volume on the service totals around 130,000 tonnes since 2006.

87 percent of passengers travelling from Hamburg to Dubai fly non-stop on this service. Of Hamburg’s Emirates passengers, 68 percent transit in Dubai, using one of the 150 onward connections to 54 different countries. Of these transfer destinations, 30 are in Asia. By far the most popular route from Hamburg via Dubai is to Bangkok.

The excellent transfer connections in Dubai to destinations in Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa make the service equally interesting for both holidaymakers and business travellers. For Hamburg, too, the non-stop connection to the United Arab Emirates is very important, with more and more people from the region travelling to Hamburg, whether on business, on holiday with the whole family, or for medical treatment. The number of passengers arriving in Hamburg from the Arab states of the Persian Gulf rose by more than 27 percent in 2015.
