Airport Operations Centre receives a facelift

Greater efficiency is expected following renovations and upgrades to the Operations Centre at the Fredericton International Airport this past summer.

The Airport Operations Centre is the main base used by the Airport Authority operations staff to maintain and manage the grounds, both airside and groundside, of the Fredericton International Airport.  It houses the equipment and material needed for emergency response, runway inspections, snow removal, and maintenance.

As needs changed, the Fredericton International Airport Authority Inc. (FIAA) determined that a more functional layout was essential for the Operations Centre.

“The old layout underutilized the space available and did not flow well”, said David Innes, President & CEO of the FIAA.

“Some of the fixtures, finishes, and systems had been in place for decades.”

The new renovations created a more centralized space between the emergency response base and the maintenance garage with new offices offering a better view of the airfield, new lunchroom and exercise facilities, and a dedicated training space.

Updates were made to windows, flooring, electrical wiring, furniture, and fixtures.  The HVAC system was replaced with a more efficient unit to better control the work environment.

“We look forward to using the new work centres and training facilities as we continue to provide a safe and secure airport for our passengers.”
