Safe handrails through UVC disinfection at Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport is continuously expanding its hygiene standards to ensure a safe visit and journey for passengers, visitors and employees.
By the end of September, Zurich Airport will equip the 16 most frequently used escalators in Terminals 1 and 2 with a UVC disinfection module for the handrails. The module consisting of three UVC lamps is compact and can be installed in any existing escalator. According to the German manufacturer and corresponding laboratory tests, the UVC rays kill 99.99% of the bacteria and viruses on the handrails. All equipped escalators are marked with a large label. Should the system prove successful, further escalators will be equipped with the module.
