Route Launch: First Direct Departure from Aalborg non-stop to Nuuk

Thursday, June 12, 2025, marked a milestone in travel opportunities between Denmark and Greenland, as the first direct non-stop departure from Aalborg Airport to Nuuk was celebrated. This is the result of a unique collaboration between the airport, Ruby Rejser, and Air Greenland, who together are opening the doors directly to Greenland’s vast Arctic landscapes. The historic route launch was celebrated with light refreshments, a balloon arch, and the traditional cutting of the red ribbon at Aalborg Airport.
Adventurous Greenland Closer to North Jutland
The new direct non-stop route to Nuuk provides travelers with easy and quick access to Greenland’s capital and onward to the country’s spectacular natural scenery, where destinations such as Ilulissat and Disko Bay await. At the same time, the route opens up new opportunities for strengthened cooperation and trade between North Jutland and the North Atlantic.
“We are incredibly proud to open this new route in collaboration with Air Greenland and Ruby Rejser. It has long been a wish to connect North Jutland directly with Greenland, and we see great potential in both leisure and business traffic. Greenland is a destination that fascinates and attracts many — and now we are making travel there both easier and faster. At the same time, the route creates new opportunities for cargo and strengthens ties to the North Atlantic, benefiting tourism, business, and trade activities,” says CEO at Aalborg Airport, Niels Hemmingsen.
With the direct non-stop route from Aalborg to Nuuk, the greatest natural experiences of the North Atlantic are brought closer to residents of North Jutland, while also facilitating cargo transport between Greenland and North Jutland — an important step in supporting growth and development across the region.
Ruby Rejser and Air Greenland Paving the Way
At Ruby Rejser, a company with extensive experience in organizing travel to the North Atlantic, the enthusiasm surrounding the new direct route is palpable:
“We are extremely proud to be part of opening this new route. It has long been a strategic priority for us to make Greenland more accessible as a destination, and with the direct connection from Aalborg — operated by AirSeven — we now have a unique opportunity to offer more travelers access to Greenland’s magnificent nature and culture,” says Rønnaug Laursen, CEO at Ruby Rejser.
For Air Greenland, the route launch is a significant step in the company’s strategy to connect Greenland with new markets and increase accessibility to and from the country:
“We are pleased to meet the demand for a direct summer route between Aalborg and Nuuk as well as our domestic destinations. Many Greenlanders have ties to North Jutland, and at the same time, the route creates new opportunities for tourism development in Greenland,” says Jacob Nitter Sørensen, CEO of Air Greenland.
Celebrating the Route Launch
The launch was marked on June 12 with a festive ceremony at Aalborg Airport. At the early morning departure, excited travelers were treated to croissants, juice, and coffee, while the gate was decorated in Greenlandic colors. The traditional red ribbon cutting ceremony capped off the event — a celebratory occasion setting the stage for a whole new era of travel opportunities between North Jutland and Greenland.
