Aalborg Airport Presents the Busiest September in Seven Years

With strong demand for sunny holiday experiences to Southern European favorites and a continued surge in domestic traffic, September 2025 saw overall growth at Aalborg Airport. Around 164,000 passengers set course for destinations such as Malaga, Mallorca, and the Greek islands, making September 2025 not only the busiest travel month in 7 years but also the second busiest month in the airport’s history.
Traditionally, September is the busiest month of the year at Aalborg Airport, when travel activity peaks for both business and leisure travelers. September 2025 was no exception, with continued strong growth on the domestic route to Copenhagen and a total of 163,988 passengers, corresponding to a 2.7 percent increase compared to last year. With such strong demand, September 2025 once again highlighted Danes’ great appetite for travel and became the second busiest month ever recorded in the airport’s history.
Sun, Warmth, and Culture in High Demand During the Last Late-Summer Month
The desire to combine sun and warmth with exciting cultural experiences remained strong, clearly reflected in the airport’s busiest month of the year. At the same time, focus has shifted to next year’s program, with spring and summer travel already being finalized.
“We are now wrapping up the final part of this summer’s program, while in the coming months, next year’s summer program will go on sale. It is already possible to book trips for a large selection of popular holiday destinations for next year. For example, Naples, Alicante, and Nice have been very popular this year. In addition, new routes and charter news are being introduced – Apollo Rejser has just announced Saranda in Albania as a new charter destination starting in June 2026. What other plans airlines and travel companies may reveal remains to be seen, but for now, we are looking forward to a busy autumn holiday and the start of the winter program,” says CEO Niels Hemmingsen.
Highest Number of Domestic Passengers in a Single Month Since 2012
In recent months, the positive trend in domestic traffic has been particularly noticeable, with September seeing a 11.6 percent increase in passengers compared to the same month last year. In fact, one has to go all the way back to 2012 to find a month with more domestic travelers. This development is driven by strong business travel demand, affordable fares, and convenient onward connections from Copenhagen.
“September will be remembered for the many happy travelers passing through the terminal, with domestic traffic in particular standing very strong. We also received confirmation from SAS that next year they will introduce an additional early morning departure to Copenhagen,” says Niels Hemmingsen
