Denmark’s Best Airport Sets New Passenger Record Once Again
A historic October has come to a close in the best possible way at Aalborg Airport. With over 151,000 passengers travelling to and from the airport, it became the busiest October ever, surpassing the previous record of 146,624 passengers set in 2017. The month was remarkable in another way as well — in early October, Aalborg Airport was named Denmark’s Best Airport for the fourth time at the Danish Travel Awards.
There is no doubt that October 2025 will go down as one of the most successful months ever for Aalborg Airport. While the title of Denmark’s Best Airport safely returned to North Jutland at the start of the month, passenger traffic soared to new heights. The increase was driven in particular by a busy autumn holiday period, marking the traditional transition from the summer to the winter schedule. With a 6.6 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to October 2024 and a total of 151,061 travellers, Aalborg Airport has once again achieved a new passenger record.
Denmark’s Largest Domestic Route Continues a Strong Growth
With an impressive 26.6 percent growth in domestic travel compared to October 2024, flight activity on Denmark’s largest domestic route — Aalborg to Copenhagen — reached new levels. In fact, it has been 14 years since Aalborg Airport saw more domestic passengers in an October month.
“Fully booked domestic flights to and from Copenhagen have become an everyday sight at Aalborg Airport, where we are now seeing growth in domestic traffic for the seventh consecutive month. This strong development is the result of an active business community, more leisure travellers visiting the capital, and an increasing number of passengers connecting to destinations around the world. Both Norwegian and SAS have truly captured the market, and attractive fare campaigns have also contributed positively,” says CEO at Aalborg Airport, Niels Hemmingsen.
Autumn Break with Some of the Busiest Travel Days Ever
While charter flights to Crete, Rhodes, and other well-known summer destinations operated alongside winter routes to Fuerteventura and Tenerife, routes to Amsterdam and Copenhagen connected holidaymakers to destinations across the globe. The days leading up to the autumn break reached record levels of passenger activity, marking some of the busiest travel days ever recorded at the airport.
“There’s no doubt that the days before the autumn holidays were extremely busy. In addition to flights to destinations such as Amsterdam, Malaga, and Copenhagen, we had nearly double the number of charter departures as the summer and winter programs overlapped. Looking at the Thursday to Sunday period, we actually have to go back seven years to find similar passenger volumes. Now we’re heading into what will likely be quieter winter months, but preparations for the Aalborg Travel Festival in January are already well underway. And who knows, perhaps we’ll soon be able to present some exciting new additions to next summer’s flight program,” CEO Niels Hemmingsen conludes.
