Airport International Group Announces Zain Jordan as Preferred Bidder for Telecoms Operator in QAIA’s New Terminal

Airport International Group (AIG), the Jordanian Company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), has announced the selection of Zain Jordan as the preferred bidder for the telecommunications and network operator tender at the QAIA’s new terminal. Following the finalization of the contract, Zain will operate and maintain QAIA New Terminal telecommunications and network common infrastructure to provide advanced telecommunications services including GSM mobile phone network, telephony and internet services for the terminal stakeholders and visitors.

The comprehensive process to select a telecoms partner began in January, when AIG launched a tender related to the operation, maintenance, and commercialization of the telecommunications network at the new terminal.

The ultimate objective of the evaluation process is to ensure the best quality services for visitors and retailers while simultaneously providing the highest financial returns for the QAIA, and in turn, to bolster the national budget. The process of selecting the most suitable service provider was the result of thorough analysis and objective criteria to ensure the utmost fairness and transparency. Strict technical and financial requirements were the basis for the evaluation process, which included the involvement of the Project Management Unit from the Ministry of Transportation.

“It is part of our mission to ensure that visitors to the new terminal will have access to the latest telecoms services,” commented Kjeld Binger, CEO of AIG, “Our primary goal is to meet world-class standards when it comes to this future national landmark. Selecting the ideal telecommunications partner is a crucial step towards placing the QAIA in the same category as other advanced international airports. With this decision, we are taking the necessary measures to deliver the new state-of-the-art terminal, a facility that will further expand Jordan’s growing aviation industry.”

AIG’s investment of US $750 million to build the new terminal – in addition to US $100 million spent on rehabilitating the terminals currently in use – is intended to develop Jordan’s primary gateway, the QAIA, as a regional niche hub. The terminal is in the advanced stages of construction with 85% completed to date.
