QAIA Registers Unprecedented Monthly Passenger Traffic Statistics during August 2016

.

Amman, October 2016 - Airport International Group (AIG) – the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) – revealed that, this August, the Airport marked its highest monthly passenger traffic (PAX) ever in its 33-year history. QAIA’s record-breaking figure of 830,259 passengers compared to the 830,001 passengers received in August 2015 was attributed to increased leisure and expat travels during the summer holiday.

In contrast, monthly aircraft movements (ACM) came in at 7,028 as opposed to last year’s 7,168 ACM, resulting in a 2.0% year-on-year drop. Still, year-on-year cargo volume rose 1.1% as the Airport handled 8,542 tons during August set against the 8,445 tons handled in the same month last year. By end of August 2016, the Airport had welcomed 5,076,345 passengers, experiencing a noteworthy 5.1% year-to-date (YTD) increase in PAX compared to the same period last year. Likewise, ACM and cargo traffic figures have both registered YTD increases of 4.5%.

“Once more, the month of August has seen QAIA achieve record-breaking figures in terms of passenger traffic. This year, QAIA reached its highest number of monthly passengers ever in August, marking a truly gratifying accomplishment. These figures not only reaffirm the Airport’s position as Jordan’s prime gateway to the world, but they also drive us to work toward setting new milestones and surpassing benchmarks, particularly following the inauguration of the second phase of QAIA’s New Terminal Project earlier this month by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger.
