Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport Becomes Europe's Fastest Growing Airport
Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport maintains its strong position among European airports.
Reflecting its potential as a steady growth, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (ISG) became the fastest-growing airport among the "MAJOR Airports" in Europe, which have a passenger capacity of over 40 million, according to the Airports Council of Europe (ACI) May 2025 Traffic Report.
ISG served approximately 3.94 million passengers in May, registering a growth of 14.9% compared to the same period last year.
Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport has ranked 9th among European airports in terms of passenger numbers since the beginning of 2025.
The busy season is met with optimizations in the terminal
Sabiha Gökçen Airport, which has become a strategic hub for airline connections between Europe, Asia and Africa, is making the most of its limited capacity thanks to the "Passenger Flow Improvement Projects" implemented since 2024 to meet the dynamically increasing passenger demand.
While infrastructure and service renewal works at the terminal continue in 2025 without disrupting existing passenger traffic, technological and operational improvements in security and passport processes create comfort areas for passengers during the busy holiday season.
According to data from the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport Airport Authority HEAŞ, a subsidiary of the Presidency of Defense Industries, passenger traffic in May 2025 was approximately 3,949,000, including 1,775,000 on domestic routes and 2,174,000 on international routes.
Known as the "City's Airport" for its ease of access and proximity to central locations, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (ISG) connects Istanbul and its surrounding area to a total of 148 destinations in 53 countries, 39 domestic and 109 international, thanks to its new partnerships.
