Lynchburg Regional Airport (LYH) is a full-service Part 139 airport serving a four-county area surrounding the City of Lynchburg. Known as "Region 2000", this 2,000 square mile area in central Virginia serves as Lynchburg Regional Airport’s Primary Service Area. It is comprised of Amherst County, Appomattox County, Town of Bedford, Bedford County, Campbell County, and the City of Lynchburg with a combined population of over 255,000. Classified as a primary, non-hub airport, LYH is owned and operated by the City of Lynchburg. Regional carrier service is provided by US Airways Express through Charlotte International Airport, with six daily departures and arrivals on a combination of CRJ200s and Dash 8-300s. Average daily departure seat capacity is 300. Total average annual budget is $6 million/year, which includes operating and capital as programmed in FAA approved ACIP & ALP. Recent capital improvement projects include the extension of Rwy 04-22 to 7,100 feet.
