Virgin Blue Group Expands Services in MEL

Melbourne Airport welcomes the Virgin Blue Group's announcement that the airline will be expanding services on five of their successful routes out of Melbourne this year.

From tomorrow, Pacific Blue will increase services to Denpasar from five weekly to daily and from October 31, will increase services to Christchurch from four weekly flights to daily

In December, V Australia will operate an additional weekly service to Los Angeles (boosting frequency to three per week), Johannesburg (three per week) and Phuket (twice weekly).

Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff congratulated the Virgin Blue Group's announcement on its first phase of network review and continued support of the Melbourne market. "Since Pacific Blue's launch in 2009 and V Australia's last December we have seen tremendous growth on the routes being serviced by the airlines' as corporate and leisure travellers have utilised the range of opportunities on offer to get to and from Victoria, Los Angeles, New Zealand, South-East Asia and South Africa.

"This announcement further demonstrates the strength and attractiveness of the Melbourne market to international airlines and we thank the Virgin Blue Group for their ongoing strong support of Victoria" Mr Woodruff said.

"We will continue to support our airlines by keeping costs low, better service levels, single campus facility and extensive infrastructure investment. We look forward to working with The Virgin Blue Group as they continue to develop their domestic and international products out of Melbourne."

This announcement follows the Virgin Blue Group increases in May from Melbourne to Fiji from twice weekly to three per week and to Denpasar from four to five per week.
