After a year of record traffic in 2018, the platform takes off again this year with the opening of a second hall that will allow it to significantly increase its capacity.

ANOTHER RECORD!

Last year, 1.88 million passengers passed through the Montpellier Méditerranée Airport , an increase of 1.64%. The platform announced a year 2018 placed under the sign of consolidation. It was without counting on the dynamism of the world economy that boosts air transport for several years, in France in general and in Montpellier in particular. In 2018, an additional 30,000 passengers passed through the banks of the Etang de l'Or , despite last winter's snows and spring strikes. In four years, traffic has jumped 30% , an excellent result that crowns the strategy put in place by airport officials to attract new companies andmultiply direct destinations from the region.

THAT FRANCE IS BEAUTIFUL ...

The lines Montpellier / Paris (Orly and Roissy) , boosted by the establishment of La Navette d'Air France for two years, prance ahead. With 930,000 passengers, they account for 50% of the traffic. But the province is not left out! The low cost Volotea confirms its establishment in the region and is now the second carrier of the airport , behind the Air France-KLM group . The lines it opened in recent years are full, like Corsica , but also Brest (+ 58%), Lille (+ 54%) or Strasbourg(+ 24%). They seduce both the Languedociens who want to discover the Hexagon without breaking the bank, than the French who come for the sun on the shores of the Mediterranean. Let's not forget Nantes , the second tricolor destination after Paris , which still flies 16% (191,000 passengers!) And Bordeaux (+ 14%), connected to Montpellier by Chalair .

DISCOVERING THE WORLD

In recent years, Montpellier Méditerranée Airport has increased its efforts to develop international traffic , especially to major European hubs. With success ! Last year, 155,000 passengers flew between Montpellier and London , the first international destination ahead of Brussels / Charleroi (63,000) and Amsterdam (54,000). Basel / Mulhouse  and Copenhagen are also on the list. On the other side of the Mediterranean, Algeria shows a strong dynamism (34,000 passengers for Algiers and 10,000 for Oran ), as well as theMorocco (177,000 passengers in total, to Casablanca , Fez,Marrakech andNador), boosted byAir Arabia.

A HAPPY 2019 YEAR

2019 marks a new phase in the development of Montpellier Méditerranée Airport , with several line openings . The Brexit does not worry too much since British Airways announces its return to Languedoc, with a  line to London Heathrow, its platform of correspondence. At the same time, easyJet opens a flight to Bristol , one of the most dynamic English cities. Further south, Morocco is always dreaming! The Belgian company TUI fly is posing for the first time on the tarmac of Montpellier, with its arrival on Casablanca , which completes the existing offer to join theeconomic capital of the Cherifian kingdom . Finally, do not forget the seasonal flights that resume service this summer, to  Dublin , Copenhagen , Berlin , Düsseldorf , Stockholm or Rotterdam ; and the return of Air France between Montpellier and Ibiza (from July 20th to August 31st). The opportunity to offer you a romantic weekend in Europe !

A NEW HALL, FOR NEW AMBITIONS

This will be the event of 2019: May 7, Montpellier Méditerranée Airport inaugurates its Hall 2 . The new building of 5700 m2 , built in the extension of the current terminal, will allow the creation of a new registration terminal of 2500 m2 on the ground floor, particularly suitable for low-cost companies that represent 35% of the platform's traffic and will continue to grow in the coming years. Upstairs, 3200 m2 of new spaces are planned for a better comfort of the passengers , with in particular 1000 m2 of commercial activities (restaurants, shops ...). With this expansion, the airport is acquiring the means to absorb the anticipated growth both in the number of destinations - from about 30 today to around 50 in the medium term - than from the number of passengers to 2.5 million passengers per year by 2025.
