FLYBE ON THE CREST OF A WAVE AS ROUTES TO BIRMINGHAM AND LONDON SOUTHEND TAKE-OFF FROM NEWQUAY

Flybe, is celebrating its inaugural flights from Newquay Cornwall Airport to Birmingham and London Southend Airport

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, is celebrating the take-off today (Friday 16th May 2014) and tomorrow (Saturday 17th May 2014) of its inaugural flights from Newquay Cornwall Airport to Birmingham and London Southend Airport.

Daily flights to Birmingham are now available and flights into London Southend will operate on a three times a week summer service basis through to September with one way fares from £20.99 including taxes and charges.

Paul Simmons, Flybe Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “Newquay marks an exciting addition to our network from both Birmingham and London Southend, as it’s an important tourism route that connects the popular southwest coast with the capital and the Midlands. Both routes also offer quick and convenient alternatives to lengthy road or rail journeys, perfectly proving that we are ‘the fastest way from A to Flybe’!”

To mark the new routes into Newquay Flybe took full advantage of the mini heat wave that has come to London. The airline landed a surf simulator machine at Exchange Square adjacent to Liverpool Street train station for commuters and local office workers to get into the holiday spirit and try out their best surf moves.

Simmons added: “In celebrating these first flights, we decided to bring some Flybe fun to the commuters and travellers using Liverpool Street Station and its environs. The surf simulator looks set to be a big hit and I hope it sparks some enthusiasm for those who see it to consider riding the crest of some real Newquay waves this summer.”

“The launch of the new services from Newquay to Birmingham and London Southend adds to our expanding summer schedule and we are extremely pleased that Flybe will be operating them this year,” said Al Titterington, Managing Director at Newquay Cornwall Airport. “Both routes will provide a boost to Cornish tourism and offer a convenient and efficient service for residents wishing to visit our beautiful region. Additionally these services will also offer both the leisure and business passenger flying from Cornwall the benefit of onward connectivity regionally and worldwide via extensive route networks.”
