Pittsburgh Celebrates "Summer of Blue" for JetBlue's 10th Anniversary at PIT

Crewmember recognition and special events for passengers are planned to commemorate ten years of serving Pittsburgh

In June, the Allegheny County Airport Authority will host the "Summer of Blue," a celebration honoring JetBlue’s 10th anniversary of providing nonstop air service and an outstanding customer experience at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Special recognition events and presentations for JetBlue crewmembers and passengers are planned, including dyeing the fountain blue at the Landside Terminal Departure Curb.

“From our Flight Operations and Inflight Crewmembers, to our Technical and Airport Operations Crewmembers, over 170 crewmembers call Pittsburgh home,” said Steve Baldwin, JetBlue General Manager for PIT. “We are very pleased to be members of this community and to be able to celebrate this important milestone together.”

“We are thrilled to recognize JetBlue’s growth and success over the past 10 years at Pittsburgh International Airport and declare it the ‘Summer of Blue’ in Allegheny County,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “Their story really follows a parallel path with our region and our airport, in terms of both challenges and success. We look forward to working with JetBlue over the next 10 years and beyond.”

On June 30, 2006, JetBlue began service at Pittsburgh International Airport. The airline has since served more than 300,000 passengers in Pittsburgh. The airline started daily service to Ft. Lauderdale in 2014, resulting in a significant increase in passengers and creating additional affordable nonstop options to this popular leisure route.

“We want to recognize JetBlue’s valuable commitment and partnership in serving travelers in the Pittsburgh region, celebrate the company’s growth and success over the past 10 years and raise awareness of the nonstop options that JetBlue currently provides,” said Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis.

Additionally, JetBlue’s four daily flights to Boston help keep Pittsburghers connected with a robust business community and higher education institutions. Competition from JetBlue has kept fares to these important markets low and offered additional options for the Pittsburgh region, Cassotis said.

Across its entire network, JetBlue provides access to 96 cities in the U.S., Caribbean and Latin America with an average of 925 daily flights, and will launch commercial service to Cuba later this year.
