Lufthansa supports organization of UN Climate Change

Lufthansa will increase capacity by 80 percent to secure extra capacity for 8,000 summit’s participants Lufthansa supports the Polish Ministry of Environment, the coordinator of COP 14 (The 14th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change along with the 4th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol), which will begin on the 1st of December 2008 in Poznan.

On this special occasion Lufthansa will adapt its offer so as to ideally meet the participants' requirements for flight connections within Europe and beyond.

‘On the Munich-Poznan route we will replace small size aircraft with bigger Airbus A319 and
A321. This means an actual capacity increase of 80 per cent. We will enhance accessibility of
Poznan for passengers travelling via hub Munich.' says Maria Kowalewska, General Manager
Lufthansa Poland.

COP 14 is the most prestigious forum of political discussion in the scope of climate protection. The Conference is organized by the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention onClimate Change and hosted by the Government of the Republic of Poland. It is envisaged that8,000 participants will attend the two-week sessions: more than 190 government delegations, international institutions, environmental, business and research non-governmental organizationsand media.

Air traffic accounts for as little as 1.6 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions (according to Kyoto-Protocol). But air travel is forecasted to grow strongly in the future. Lufthansa is fully
aware of its responsibility and remains firmly committed to reducing the burden on the
environment. The airline's aim is to make mobility as ecologically compatible as possible - in
other words, sustainable and future-oriented.

Lufthansa's aims to achieve lowest-possible CO 2 emissions through: technical progress,
improved infrastructure, operational measures and scientific research. In particular the regular
fleet modernization has enabled Lufthansa to reduce its specific kerosene consumption
2/8 considerably over the past 40 years. Lufthansa's new flagships, the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747-8 mark an ecological milestone, as the innovative wide-bodied aircraft will only consume about 3.4 litres of kerosene per 100 passenger-kilometres according to the manufacturers.

Lufthansa passengers can compensate the CO 2 emissions produced by their journeys by
making a voluntary donation within "myclimate - The Climate Protection Partnership" initiative.

Interested passengers can enter the origin and destination of their flights on the Internet page http://lufthansa.myclimate.org . The system then automatically calculates the CO2 emissions produced during their flights and the amount of their voluntary climate donations. The website provides the information on the projects supported within the initiative such as production of electricity and heat from biomass in Southern India.
