Program to increase routes at Stewart Airport

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — A new incentive program aims to attract more airlines and routes to Stewart International Airport in the Hudson Valley.

11 Febraury 2012

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says it will waive certain fees for carriers and provide marketing support for the airport. The idea is to make the authority-operated airport 55 miles north of New York City more attractive to fliers from the metropolitan region and the mid-Hudson Valley.

The Port Authority will pay up to $3 per departing seat offered by airlines on new nonstop routes in the first full year of service. More incentives would be provided in the second year of service. The authority also will help pay for marketing and advertising for the new routes. The authority recently approved a $20 million expansion of Stewart.
