Wizz Air Launches 10 New Routes in Cyprus and surpasses 10 Million Passengers

Wizz Air is celebrating a major milestone in Cyprus, having carried over 10 million passengers to and from the island since launching operations in 2010. Coinciding with the airline’s five-year anniversary at its Larnaka base, this milestone come with even more momentum: the launch of 10 new routes for the upcoming winter season, along with the start of operations from Pafos Airport.
This expansion marks a significant step in Wizz Air’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and support Cyprus’ ambition to become a year-round destination.
Winter Growth Strategy
The new routes—offering flights from Larnaka to Barcelona, Venice, Tirana, Skopje, Gyumri, Suceava, Timisoara, and Tuzla, as well as from Pafos to Yerevan and Warsaw—will significantly enhance connectivity during the traditionally quieter winter months. Notably, this marks the first time Wizz Air will operate flights from Pafos, signalling a broader geographic strategy across the island.
By expanding its winter network, the airline is not only increasing capacity but also tapping into growing demand for off-season travel, offering affordable fates and attracting especially regional travellers.
Cyprus as a Strategic Location
Since establishing its base in Larnaka in 2020, Wizz Air has grown to operate 34 routes and employs over 100 people locally. The airline’s rapid expansion reflects Cyprus’ strategic value as a leisure destination, especially for low-cost carriers seeking to diversify their seasonal operations.
Looking Ahead
Wizz Air’s continued investment in Cyprus—through both route expansion and customer experience—signals a long-term commitment to the market.
Andras Rado, Head of Communications at Wizz Air, expressed his gratitude for this huge milestone in Cyprus. He stated, “We are proud to celebrate this remarkable milestone of 10 million passengers to and from Cyprus, along with five years of operations at our sunny Larnaka base. Cyprus is one of the most dynamic hubs in our network, and we remain committed to offering more travellers safe and affordable flight options. We will continue to invest in Cyprus, further strengthening air connectivity while supporting the country’s tourism and economy. ”
Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing & Communication of Hermes Airports stated, “The growth of Wizz Air in Cyprus is a living proof of how a sincere and productive collaboration can generate mutual benefits. Together, we are creating real value with a positive impact on travellers, the tourism and the economy of our country. Building on this momentum, we look ahead to carry this momentum forward, establishing Cyprus as a true year-round destination and shaping the airports of the next generation.”
