Punta Cana Airport Strengthens Its Regional Leadership with New Routes and Greater International Connectivity

Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) continues strengthening its leadership as the Caribbean’s main tourism hub with the addition of new routes and a significant increase in air capacity, expanding travel options for millions of passengers and reinforcing its role as a driving force for tourism and national economic development.

This month, PUJ announces major advances in its network of connections thanks to the expansion of two strategic partners: American Airlines and JetSMART. These additions reinforce the airport’s vision of promoting broader, more modern, and more accessible connectivity between the Dominican Republic and key markets in North and South America.

American Airlines launched four new routes to Indianapolis (IND), Nashville (BNA), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh–Durham (RDU), connecting Punta Cana with new high-potential cities in the United States. These operations, which will take place on Saturdays through April 2026, are part of a winter schedule that includes up to 95 weekly flights and more than 12% growth in seat capacity, reaffirming the airline’s strong presence in the country.

At the same time, JetSMART began direct flights from Punta Cana to Medellín and Cali, connecting the destination for the first time with two of Colombia’s most dynamic cities through three weekly frequencies on each route. These new flights strengthen tourism and commercial exchange between the Dominican Caribbean and the South American nation, opening doors to new business opportunities, cultural experiences, and greater accessibility for travelers visiting for leisure or executive purposes.

Mr. Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana Airport, highlighted the importance of these expansions for regional development:
“The addition of these new routes represents a significant step forward for the country’s competitiveness. Each connection we add strengthens our ability to attract more visitors, boosts tourism, and expands economic opportunities both for our region and for the Dominican Republic as a whole. We deeply value the trust of the airlines that continue choosing Punta Cana as the gateway to the Caribbean.”

Both American Airlines and JetSMART reaffirmed their interest in continuing to expand their presence in the Dominican market, bolstering Punta Cana’s position as a preferred destination for international travelers and as a strategic platform for air connectivity in the region.

With these developments, Punta Cana Airport closes the year with notable momentum in its global network, reinforcing its commitment to offering world-class infrastructure, efficient operations, and service excellence for its passengers and partners.
