Keflavik Airport welcomes first direct flights between Iceland and Anchorage
International airport in Iceland Keflavik International Airport (KEF) has welcomed Icelandair’s first direct flights between Iceland and Anchorage, Alaska, which launched on 15th May 2013. The flights to Anchorage will be taking off twice a week until mid-September 2013 from KEF, and flight time takes a little over seven hours.

International airport in Iceland Keflavik International Airport (KEF) has welcomed Icelandair’s first direct flights between Iceland and Anchorage, Alaska, which launched on 15th May 2013.
The flights to Anchorage will be taking off twice a week until mid-September 2013 from KEF, and flight time takes a little over seven hours.
Due to the flight path being across the North Atlantic, on the edge of the Arctic Circle, passengers will get to experience the unique midnight sun during their journey.
In a recent press release published by Icelandair, Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair, states, “Icelandair offers convenient and economical flights between North America and Europe. Flights from Alaska to Iceland are approximately 7 hours and offer three cabins of service, leather seats and personal in-flight entertainment centers for all passengers. In addition to opening up a new market for Icelandic tourism, travelers will now have a refreshing new option when flying from Alaska to Europe.“
Over the past few years, KEF airport has earned itself a string of awards and achievements. The airport’s impeccable history has been matched by its excellent services and satisfied customers. The airport has twice been awarded as ‘the best small airport in Europe’ - in 2009 and 2011 - and also came a close second in 2010, as part of an extensive annual airport service survey conducted by the Airports Council International. In 2011, KEF was awarded for the category of best airport for 2 million passengers or less. The airport actually came out on top in terms of service, but since it was placed in the smaller airports category, was not able to come out on top overall.
Furthermore, the airport was ranked third in terms of best airports in the world in 2004, for airports with less than five million passengers a year.
