Finland's first year-round cable wakeboarding track to be opened in Tampere

Tohloppi skating track will be the home to the first cable wakeboarding track in Finland open in winter as well as summer!

The brain behind this acquisition is the plough master of the Tohloppi track, Tuukka Tuominen

”My idea is to turn Tohloppi lake and area into a versatile water sports centre with activities throughout the year, in summer as well as winter”, Tuominen envisions.

”We received a constructing permission from the City of Tampere already last spring, but the manufacturer of the tracks was fresh out of big masts and the triple cable when the summer season was beginning. We were offered second-hand tracks, but we want to develop the Tohloppi lake area only with the best products. That’s why we are opening the track only as the lake has frozen over”, Tuominen continues.

There are now two masts erected near the Tohloppi tour skating track’s equipment rental point, and soon there will be three cables installed between the masts. The distance between the masts is 300 metres and the wakeboard track itself is 260 m long, with maximum speed of about 50 km/h. In the summertime, the track will be used for wakeboards, water skiing or SUP boards. There will be ramps and obstacles installed and the rental equipment opened for summer 2020.

In the winter, visitors can have fun on the track with a snowboard or a “donut”. The track will be open for winter use already in season 2019-2020.

”The cable track will be located west of the swimming place, and there are no houses along the shore. The cable will be powered by an electric motor, so there won’t be any noise from using it. This is a more ecological alternative for waterskiing, too”, Tuominen says.

”This track is very suitable to be set up at Tohloppi lake, as the small lake doesn’t let the wind pick up the waves too much and it gets warm quickly in the summer. On top of that, the water in the lake is very clear. Thanks to the central location of the area, it’s easy also for the visitors to reach”, rejoices Tuominen.

Wakeboarding and waterskiing enthusiasts are welcome to test the basic track on Sunday, September 22 at 11-15 free of charge! Testers must bring their own equipments along (board, vest and helmet).
