Gold Coast Airport's catchment data tells a fascinating story. Overall traffic within the airport's catchment remained 5.9% below 2019 levels as of 4Q2024, however inbound visitor journeys surged by almost 877,000 additional one way passengers (+15.4%), while outbound resident traffic dropped by 1.57 million one way passengers (-25.6%).

Queensland Airports Limited announces Level 4 ACA certification for all four airports

Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) reported (26-Aug-2025) Gold Coast Airport, Townsville Airport, Mount Isa Airport and Longreach Airport received Level 4 certification under Airports Council International's Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme. The certification recognises QAL's efforts to align its carbon management with global climate goals, achieving absolute emissions reductions and establishing partnerships to further cut carbon across its operations. QAL chief strategy, sustainability and people officer Shannon McFadden stated: "To have all four of our airports achieve Level 4 accreditation is a proud moment, but also a reminder of the responsibility we have to keep pushing towards our net zero targets".

Gold Coast Airport receives government approval for 2024 master plan

Gold Coast Airport received (06-Aug-2025) government approval for its 2024 master plan, following extensive engagement with community including cultural stakeholders. The plan includes a range of environmental and sustainability commitments as well as provision for the following developments:

  • A public plaza integrating future public transport connectivity;
  • Additional airport hotel accommodation;
  • Commercial office space and health and wellness facilities;
  • A conference and technology hub;
  • Airport retail village and travel centre;
  • Southern Cross University expansion.

The plan projects the airport's economic contribution to the region will nearly double to AUD990 million (USD643.5 million) p/a and support more than 6000 jobs over the next two decades. Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans stated: "Our forecasts project 13 million passengers will pass through the airport annually by 2044 - that's more than double our current passenger figures... The mixed-use precinct will create a vibrant destination for people to work, relax, shop and connect. Our vision extends beyond being just an airport - we aim to be a destination in our own right".

Jetstar Airways launches Gold Coast-Bali service

Jetstar Airways launched (01-Aug-2025) three times weekly Gold Coast-Bali service with A320neo equipment. As previously reported by CAPA, the service adds more than 58,000 seats between the two destinations p/a.
