Strengthening the foundations of Mexican Aviation

ASM - the world-leading advisor on air service development issues - has just completed a series of specialist management training sessions to some of Mexico's most prominent aviation leaders.

Senior members of the Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA), Mexico's state airports authority, together with representatives from each of the four main satellite airports in the Mexico city-region, took part in an intensive two-day ASM event aimed at improving competitiveness and delivering broad economic benefit.

The participating airports included Mexico City International Airport, Puebla - Hermanos Serdan Airport, Querétaro International Airport and General Mariano Matamoros Airport, also known as Cuernavaca Airport.

Held at ASA corporate headquarters in Mexico City, the training course examined the principles and importance of route development for future economic successes, in-depth analysis of current market standing for each individual airport, stakeholder engagement strategies and current aviation market dynamics. Crucially, the training was specifically customised for the ASA and the Mexican airport cluster, and centered on active interaction. As such, the ASM team was able to work closely with each party to identify new and practical route and airline opportunities of significant developmental potential.

ASM regularly delivers commercially focused training to airports, airlines and related industry organisations on a worldwide basis.  .

John Grant, managing director at ASM comments:

"As a consequence of current, challenging economic circumstances, it's now more critical than ever that people are fully trained and equipped to deal with challenges and opportunities they will face in 2010. It was very interesting to work with the ASA and this group of airports - they clearly understand that the partnership between airlines and airports is the most fundamental aspect of route development, and I think that there is huge potential for them and the region as a whole. Hopefully, our training will have armed them with the tools they need to translate their vision for growth into reality."

Gilberto Lopez Meyer from ASA comments:
"In terms of the issues facing the aviation community and for those of us seeking to drive growth from route development, ASM provides an excellent interface for specialist training and independent insight. We operate in a very specific environment, which ASM understand so they were a natural partner to provide help and management support in our strategic development. I really enjoyed the course and found it to be very meaningful."
