United celebrating tenth anniversary of Hamburg-New York service

Almost 900,000 passengers since flights began

HAMBURG, 11 June, 2015 United Airlines is today marking the tenth anniversary of the launch of its non-stop service between Hamburg and its New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport. Since the service began in 2005, the airline has carried almost 900,000 passengers on more than 6,000 flights on the route.

“United is the only American airline in Hamburg, and we are proud to have been offering this North Atlantic service to our customers for ten years now,” says Thorsten Lettnin, Regional Director Central and Northern Europe with United Airlines. “The daily United flight from Hamburg brings our passengers direct to New York City, and beyond that, thanks to the United Hub at Newark Liberty, to hundreds of connecting flights to destinations throughout America.”

Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, says of the tenth anniversary of this service, “United is a reliable partner for Hamburg Airport. We are delighted by the great success and the continuity of the route. New York is by far the most important US market for Hamburg, and from the other side of the Atlantic, too, the connection has made a substantial contribution to awareness of our city. In 2014 alone, around 85,000 US citizens visited the city – 77 percent more than came ten years ago.”

Until now, United has used a Boeing 757-200 on the route, with 169 seats made up of 16 flat beds in United BusinessFirst and 153 United Economy seats, including 45 Economy Plus seats, with larger pitch and more personal space.
