Our Story

Lion Air was legally established on 15 November 1999 and began operating the first time on June 30, 2000 by flying from Jakarta to Pontianak using aircraft type Boeing 737-200 which at that time only 2 units.

Headquartered in Lion Air Tower, Jl. Gajah Mada No. 7 in the area of ​​Central Jakarta, PT. Lion Mentari Airlines, or commonly known as Lion Air is the low-cost airlines or (Low Cost Carrier) with motto "We Make People Fly". Through this, Lion Air were trying to convince everyone that anyone can fly with Lion Air and also always prioritize the safety, security, and quality.

Fifteen years on the air and serving the public, until now, Lion Air already flies to 183 routes, which are divided into domestic routes, which spread to all corners of Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke, and the International towards a number of countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and China. Number of service certainly will continue to grow because aviation market in Indonesia which continues to grow rapidly. With total fleet of 112, aircraft is divided into several types such as Boeing 747-400, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 737-900 ER, and Airbus A330-300. The number of fleet will also be increased according with the order made by Lion Air.


Along the way, Lion Air has come with a series of achievements and awards, Lion Air also achieved international certification to continuously improve the quality of its service to public and their loyal customers. Some of them are ISSA certification which is an International Standard Safety and Security Assessment that provided by IATA which received in January 2016, then the certification of ISO 9001: 2015 about Delay Management which the standard will be audited on a regular basis.

Lion Air is part of the Lion Air Group, together with Wings Air, Batik Air, Lion Bizjet, Malindo Air which based in Malaysia, and Thai Lion Air that is based in Thailand. Aggressive and innovative business expansion make Lion Air Group now has full facilities to support their business such as training and education center, offices, housing for the ground crew and flight crew located at Lion City-Balaraja, Lion Simulator Center located at Bandara Mas-Tangerang and Aircraft Maintenance Facility Batam Aero Technic that is located at Hang Nadim Airport, Batam.
