2016: 10 years successful concession and a record number of passengers at the sea airports managed by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management

In 2016 Fraport Twin Star Airport Management marked the first decade of its successful airport concession at Burgas and Varna airports. The year was record-breaking in number of passengers, over 4, 5 million passengers. The operator of the sea airports achieved 22% growth in serviced passengers, a new historical record for both airports. 18% is the growth of serviced flights, their total number reached 35,691 take-offs and landings. Key markets for both airports were Russia, Germany, United Kingdom. There is also a strong growth in passengers traveling to and from Poland at both sea airports.

22 % growth in passengers at Burgas airport

In 2016 the number of passengers at Burgas airport was 2, 878, 883 million, an increase of 22%.

Burgas airport serviced 20,873 flights. Most of the passengers were from Russia, which is an increase of 40%, followed by United Kingdom (11% growth) and Germany (43% growth).

Most passengers for 24 hours (39 836 passengers) were serviced on 29th of July.

Top 5 destinations at Burgas Airport for 2016 are Moscow (Russia), Tel Aviv (Israel), London (UK), Prague (Czech Republic), St. Petersburg (Russia).

13 new airlines carried out flights to and from Burgas airport. In the summer schedule were included 19 new destinations in Russia, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Italy.

After the end of a successful summer season, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management finished a large-scale infrastructure project for reconstruction and rehabilitation of taxiways at Burgas airport. The total investment in these projects is over 12 million leva.

New routes and 21% growth in passengers at Varna Airport

1, 689, 595 is the number of passengers at Varna Airport in 2016, which is an increase of 21% compared to 2015.

Most of the passengers were from Germany (35% growth), Russia (6% growth) and Bulgaria (8% growth).

The most popular destinations in 2016 at Varna Airport were Moscow (Russia), Sofia (Bulgaria), London (UK), Tel Aviv (Israel) and Dusseldorf (Germany).

On 5th of August at Varna Airport are serviced 19,536 passengers for 24 hours, making it the busiest day.

12 new airlines operated flights during the summer season at the airport.

The new routes from Varna airport were 11 to destinations in Germany, Russia, Poland, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Slovakia, Hungary, UK.

2016 ended at Varna Airport with good news. easyJet airline announced that it starts flights from Varna during the summer to London Gatwick and Berlin Schoenefeld.

WIZZ AIR announced its 27th base at Varna airport and new year-round flights to Dortmund and Munich Memmingen in Germany, Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Larnaca in Cyprus and Milan Bergamo in Italy. A few days ago the Hungarian airline reported as of summer in the schedule at Varna Airport will be included a year-round flights to Tel Aviv (Israel).
