Ryanair

Ryanair has celebrated its ten year anniversary at the Bergamo Orio al Serio airport “Il Caravaggio”.

The Irish airline began its flight operations from the Bergamo airport on the 14th February 2002 with a connection to Frankfurt (Hahn). In April of the same year a London (Stansted) route was launched. In its first operational year Ryanair carried over 360,000 passengers and in the following year, Orio al Serio airport became Ryanair's first Italian base with 3 aircraft and 7 new international routes resulting in the carrying of 1.3 million passengers.

Over the years, Ryanair's presence at Bergamo Orio al Serio airport has increased significantly in terms of the number of based aircraft, the international and national routes (the first domestic connection was to Rome-Ciampino airport at the end of March 2006) and in passenger traffic, making it the main Ryanair airport in Italy.

In 2011, Ryanair carried over 6.5 million passengers, with an increase of 11% compared to 2010 for a total of 34 million passengers over its ten years of operations.
