Da Nang International Airport Expands Terminal 2 Capacity
Da Nang International Airport has commenced the expansion of Terminal 2 under a project with a total investment of nearly VND 1.5 trillion. The expansion project is aimed at increasing international passenger handling capacity and supporting the continued growth of Da Nang as an aviation and tourism gateway in Central Vietnam.

Terminal 2 was originally inaugurated in 2017 with a designed capacity of 4 million international passengers annually. In recent years, passenger throughput has exceeded the terminal’s original design capacity, reaching more than 7.1 million passengers in 2019. International traffic continued to recover strongly, with approximately 6.18 million passengers recorded in 2024 and 6.81 million passengers in 2025.
The expansion project will be implemented on an area of approximately 3,600 square metres, increasing the terminal’s total operational area to more than 21,000 square metres. Planned upgrades include increasing the number of check-in counters from 54 to 85 and expanding boarding gates equipped with passenger boarding bridges from four to seven.

Additional improvements include expanding baggage handling facilities, with departure baggage carousels increasing from two to four and arrival baggage belts from four to six. The terminal will also be equipped with a Variable Air Volume (VAV) air-conditioning system to improve operational efficiency and passenger comfort.
Upon completion, Terminal 2’s annual handling capacity is expected to increase from 4 million to 6 million international passengers. The project is expected to help address current capacity constraints, support service quality during peak periods and create additional capacity for future international route development.

The expansion reflects ongoing investment in aviation infrastructure to meet growing international travel demand and strengthen regional air connectivity. Together with broader airport development plans, the upgraded terminal is expected to support the continued development of air services and tourism in Central Vietnam.
