Brno Airport checked-in 52.5 thousand more passengers than last year

The popularity of passengers travelling from international Brno-Tuřany Airport is still growing. Last year there were 470 thousand travellers, while a year before it was 418 thousand.

The demand increased thanks to summer charter destinations. During the summer season, the airport served more than 260 thousand passengers. Almost 100 thousands of those 260 thousand were travelling from/to Greece, which belongs to one of the most favourite destinations. Roughly 50 thousand passengers were travelling to Bulgaria, and over 30 thousand passengers flew to Egypt.

A significant portion in statistics registered also Turkey, Spain and Tunisia. Over 93% of those passengers were transported by travel company Travel Service a.s., then continued to Tunisair and Tailwind. A 3 thousand tons of luggage were also transported.

Last year can be called successful from the regular transport view. As a great success can be considered the increased interest in flight from Brno to Munich. In 2017 we checked-in roughly 19 thousand passengers. In comparison to 2016, it is a 62% increase. And thanks to more suitable times of departures from Brno at 7 pm, there is a potential for further growth. The passengers now manage to change to other planes more easily.

As in previous years, in 2017 the greatest interest in terms of flights was to London. Roughly a two-hour flight between Brno and London Stansted Airport, where Ryanair departs 5 flights a week in the winter season and 7 flights a week in the summer season was used by 108 thousand passengers during 2017. Another 48 thousand passengers were transported by Wizzair company.

In 2017, Brno Airport recorded just over 44 thousand movements of all aircraft. In terms of cargo, a total of 3.7 thousand tons of goods were transported in scheduled and non-scheduled air transport.

Last year can be considered successful and estimations for this year are optimistic. Negotiations are underway to expand the offer of flights with five new scheduled routes and two summer seasonal connections. The newly considered destinations are Milan, Rome, Barcelona, Brussels, Lviv with the year-round operation, and from June to September to Split and Dubrovnik. Comfortable passenger transport should manage The BLUE AIR company with aircraft Boeing 737-500 with a capacity of 126 seats.
