Turkish Airlines Celebrates 2 Million Passengers at Birmingham Airport
Turkish Airlines has carried over 2,000,000 passengers through Birmingham Airport (BHX) since it began operations from Birmingham in December 2008. The carrier operates a twice-daily route from Birmingham to Istanbul (IST) and has operated thousands of flights from BHX to date.
The milestone comes as Turkish Airlines prepares to expand its operations at BHX for the peak summer travel season. From June 10th 2025, the airline will be operating four additional flights from Birmingham to Istanbul, increasing the total to 18 weekly services. Turkish Airlines is a significant carrier for the regional transport hub, supporting one-stop onwards connectivity to over 270 international destinations in 130 countries.
Turkish Airlines and Birmingham Airport joined forces this week to celebrate the momentous occasion today by surprising the 2 millionth passengers onboard the 13:10 flight on Tuesday 8th July from BHX to IST with a pair of free return flights from Birmingham to Istanbul. The lucky winners were Isabelle Clayton and Eleanor Lovatt, both aged 18, who were jetting off to Bali, via Istanbul, to volunteer in a school after recently finishing their A Levels.
Commenting on the airline’s milestone, Al Titterington, Terminal Operations Director of Birmingham Airport said: “We’re delighted to celebrate 2 million Turkish Airlines passengers through Birmingham Airport. This incredible milestone is illustrative of the long-standing partnership we have with Turkish Airlines and how the airline is a popular choice for our passengers travelling to Istanbul and beyond. We look forward working with Turkish Airlines as it expands its operations from BHX.”
Serhat Gok, General Manager at Turkish Airlines, said:
“Reaching two million passengers at Birmingham Airport is a substantial achievement for Turkish Airlines which reflects the trust passengers have in our airline and the strength of our partnership with BHX. As we increase our flights this summer, we look forward to connecting even more travellers from the Midlands to more countries worldwide than any other airline via our Istanbul hub."
