Wizz Air Expands in Katowice and announces 10 new routes from Poland

Katowice, 27 November - Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced that it will significantly expand its Katowice operations from March 2018. Basing a 7th aircraft at Katowice Airport, WIZZ will launch seven new routes to Lviv and Kharkiv in Ukraine, Faro and Porto in Portugal, Malaga in Spain, Munich Memmingen in Germany and Podgorica in Montenegro as well as increase frequencies on eight popular services.

Today’s announcement once again underlines Wizz Air’s commitment to Katowice at the end of a memorable year marked with a record passenger number and an important milestone. In the first ten months of 2017, WIZZ carried 1.7 million passengers on its low-fare Katowice routes, 17% more than in the same period of the previous year.  

Wizz Air has recently celebrated the first flight of its Katowice based Airbus A321 aircraft, which is, with 230 seats on board, the most efficient single-aisle passenger aircraft. The aircraft’s superior operating economics allows WIZZ to offers more seats to more destinations at the lowest possible fares.

Expanding its operations, Wizz Air will increase its Katowice seat capacity to over 2.73 million seats in 2018, which represents 29% growth year over year. With its newest routes, WIZZ now connects Katowice with 42 cities across Europe and beyond.

Wizz Air also announced that subsequent to the adjustment of its network and capacity plan in Poland, it will close its base at Lublin Airport in June 2018 and reallocate capacity on other Polish routes to reflect changing customer demand. Besides the new Katowice services, WIZZ will start operating new routes from Warsaw to Podgorica, from Gdansk to Lviv and from Poznan to Dortmund.
