Big launch week for Marseille Provence Airport!
Several major events have been celebrated at Marseille Provence Aiprort within a matter of days
Friday 31 May: Inaugural flight from Marseille to NYC
MRS Airport and Autogrill organised an all-American send-off for passengers on the inaugural flight from Marseille to New York operated by XL Airways France, with special offers from Starbucks, Chefs en Provence and Burger King.
Then in NYC, "Marseille" was listed on the screens at New York's JFK Airport for the first time! By the way, the 1st commercial transatlantic flight took place in June 1939… and it was from New York to Marseille!
Monday 3 June: Christening of NYC to Marseille route
The XL Airways aircraft that inaugurated the New York to Marseille route was treated to the traditional "christening" by firemen at MRS.
On board with the first American tourists was a group of travel agents and journalists from New York, coming to visit the region until Friday on an incentive trip organised by Marseille Provence Airport tourism partners (FlyProvence; http://www.flyprovence.com/en/).
Tuesday 4 June: Turkish Airlines' inaugural flight gets christened
A Turkish Airlines aircraft also got "christened"! Turkish Airlines flies to more destinations than any other airline in the world, and its first flight into MRS was duly feted. A sizeable delegation headed by the General Consulate of Turkey in Marseille, the airline's Senior Vice-President and the President of Marseille Provence Airport, celebrated the aircraft's arrival. “Today, the load factor is about 80% for the first month of operation of MRS-IST route”, says the General Manager of Turkish Airlines in Marseille.
