Cork Airport Welcomes New Ryanair Service to Milan Bergamo

Management at Cork Airport is delighted with today’s announcement by Ryanair that it plans to operate a new Cork to Milan Bergamo service beginning on June 2nd, 2011.

The twice weekly service will operate on Thursdays and Sundays and has been launched with fares from €37.99 one way, inclusive of taxes.

Welcoming the announcement, Cork Airport’s Marketing Manager, Kevin Cullinane said: “The new Milan Bergamo summer service is an excellent start to the New Year for Cork and is something we have been working closely with Ryanair on in recent months.

“This brings to sixteen the number of direct Ryanair services from Cork Airport this summer and the growing network of services from Cork is a real boost for us and, indeed, the south of Ireland catchment area we serve.

“Milan was identified as a key city region unserved from Cork and we are delighted to bring to fruition months of commercial effort to secure an international Airline to operate this new service from June next.

“2011 will bring plenty of challenges but we have started the year positively with a number of new route announcements. Despite 2010 being the toughest year on record for the aviation industry internationally, Cork Airport is looking forward to the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Airport in 1961, with the commencement of new Ryanair services to Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife in addition to Milan Bergamo plus the addition of a new Aer Lingus service to Palma Majorca this summer.

“In addition, we also have the new incentive scheme launched by the DAA in December for all three state airports at Cork, Dublin and Shannon, which will see passenger charges waived once an overall threshold for the three airports of 23.5 million passengers is reached.

“I believe that this is a key incentive for all our airlines customers to expand their services from Cork Airport which will be good for Cork and indeed, for the entire region we serve if this target is attained.”

Ryanair’s Laura McCormack said: “Ryanair is delighted to announce a new twice weekly service from Cork to Milan Bergamo. The new route will commence on June 2nd with fares from only €37.99 one way, inclusive of taxes and will go on sale tomorrow”.

Ryanair uses Bergamo Airport as a gateway to nearby Milan, but Bergamo represents a beautiful destination in itself, introducing visitors to the northern Italian region of Lombardy. The town of Bergamo is north-east of Milan, close to Lake Como and the foothills of the Alps.
