Congresswoman Bustos Visits RFD

ROCKFORD, Ill. – On Friday, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) met with Mike Dunn, Executive Director of the Chicago Rockford International Airport at RFD to discuss multiple projects, with the focus being on terminal expansion. Congresswoman Bustos and Dunn met for an hour before taking a tour of the airport. Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Bustos have been working together with the FAA and airport to secure funding for the terminal expansion. With a 10% growth in 2012 and an expected double-digit growth in 2013, RFD looks to expand an already stressed facility that was built in the 1980’s.

“We believe that the Chicago Rockford International Airport is a tremendous asset to this region, and Senator Durbin and I are working diligently with the FAA to help expand the facilities to allow for growth.” Bustos said.

“We are talking about a modest terminal expansion, however, not a Taj Mahal,” said RFD Director Mike Dunn. “Most leisure carriers operate under a low-cost model and are not willing to pay for fancy brick and mortar or artwork. They want an efficient terminal their passengers can move through comfortably. That’s the way we will approach any kind of expansion. We are committed to living with and accepting our carrier’s model.”
