A Promising 2016 Ahead

Passenger numbers for the first four months of 2016 are looking good for Aalborg Airport. Compared to 2015, the total traffic in and out of Aalborg has increased with 10, 7 percent, which shows a promising 2016.

After the first four months of 2016, Aalborg Airport can see a significant increase in the number of passengers travelling to and from the airport. Looking at the numbers in domestic, international and charter traffic for the same months in 2015, there is an increase of 10, 7 percent so far in 2016. Moreover, January, February and April set new records as the largest months in Aalborg Airport’s history – compared to January, February and April in previous years.

Growth All-around

All traffic areas have experienced growth in 2016 – with an increase in passenger numbers by 8.5 percent for domestic, 11.9 percent for international and 19.4 percent for charter traffic. CEO of Aalborg Airport, Søren Svendsen, sees new destinations and larger capacity as the main drivers for the growth.

In late March, Lufthansa reduced their number of weekly departures from Aalborg Airport. This resulted in a small decline in international travellers in April, which was an expected outcome. However, April showed an extraordinary increase in domestic travellers – with a growth of nearly 14 percent.

-There is growth for the sixth consecutive month in domestic traffic, which is very pleasing. The impressive growth is primarily a result of an improved seat offering from SAS and Norwegian. The advancement is also evidence of increased corporate activity, says CEO of Aalborg Airport, Søren Svendsen.

Popular Destinations Ever More Favoured

The popular summer destinations Malaga and Mallorca are in high demand from leisure travellers, which has resulted in a new operator on these routes from Aalborg Airport. Primera Air has one weekly departure to both Malaga and Mallorca, starting in the summer period of 2016. With additional weekly departures, an increased number of both international and charter passengers can fly to sunny Spain from Aalborg.

Moreover, a new exciting charter destination was revealed in April as well. Bravo Tours will fly to Kenya during the winter season of 2017, where leisure travellers can combine relaxation and thrilling safaris on Africa’s savannah.
