Great News for the Route Network at Aalborg Airport

The past months has brought along great news for the route network at Aalborg Airport, where especially international routes flourish before the winter season – with more departures to Amsterdam and London and a new route to Gran Canaria.

Looking back at the past months at Aalborg Airport shows more than busy holiday months, where a plethora of charter and international passengers seek the warmer climate south of Denmark. The summer months have also brought along great news for the airport’s route network – in terms of both domestic, charter and international routes.

International routes on the rise

In the Spring, Ryanair announced that they open a new direct route from Aalborg to London Stansted. At first, they planned three weekly departures from the 5th of September, but in July a fourth weekly departure was introduced with start in late October. Moreover, Norwegian recently announced that their three weekly departures will continue throughout the winter season. As a result, there will be seven weekly departures for London from Aalborg Airport.

Norwegian also announced that they will introduce a new direct route to Gran Canaria for their winter program – complementing an increasing demand for warm holiday destinations in the cold winter months.

On top of that, KLM/Air France revealed that they would operate with four daily departures from Aalborg to Amsterdam all year.

Consequently, we will see a significant increase in international traffic for the upcoming winter season.

Political support to domestic traffic

In July, the Danish government presented a new strategy for aviation in Denmark, which seeks to strengthen domestic routes significantly. With up to 17 daily departures between Aalborg and Copenhagen, the new political initiative will have a valuable and positive impact on domestic traffic from Aalborg Airport.

Additionally, the new domestic summer route to Bornholm was recently extended with six additional departures in October – due to the route’s impressive success.

New charter route to Madeira

In the beginning of August, the travel agency, SunCharter, revealed a new charter route for the winter season. From December 2017, it will be possible to travel directly from Aalborg to the Portuguese holiday island, Madeira. Together with the other charter destinations – including the popular Canary Islands – the charter program for the winter season looks promising.
