Aalborg Airport Expands Shopping Area

More than every 5 travelers to and from Aalborg Airport buy dutyfree products. Now the airport expands the shopping area with 50 square meters of new shops and concepts.

No less than 1,521,658 passengers traveled to and from Aalborg Airport in 2017. 320,000 of these – equivalent to 21 percent – purchased dutyfree products at the airport's shopping area, Thus a new record is achieved in the sale of perfume, makeup, spirits, candy, toys and accessories. Since 2013, where the airport opened a brand new shopping area of 600 square meters, continuous optimization has contributed to the success, and now the airport is expanding again with 50 square meters in the shopping area:

– More and more of our guests choose to shop in our dutyfree shopping area. There are many reasons for that. First of all, there is more money in circulation, and we have continuously optimized both appearance, selection of goods, services, etc., and it has had a great effect in 2017, Marketing Director, Rikke Mølgaard, explains.

Head of Retail at Aalborg Airport, Martin Winter, supplements:

– Now we are expanding with a new shopping area between gate areas 2 and 3, and the area should preferably contain seasonal items. Here we get a very large selection of books, gin and other types of spirits. In Retail, we must constantly ensure that we have the best and most sought after 'brands' on the shelves, he says.

The total shopping area in Aalborg Airport is now expanding to 650 square meters. Airline passengers to and from Aalborg Airport have been able to inspect the renovation in recent weeks, and this week, the area of furniture and products will be completed. Friday, March 16, 2018, the new area is officially in use:

– Shopping is both important for the airport's economy and for the travelers' experience of the airport. It is absolutely crucial that we have a large and attractive range of products and of course that the prices are right, Rikke Mølgaard states.

Rikke Mølgaard adds that dutyfree shopping attracts more different types of customers. Some need a gift for the host they are traveling to, or a gift for the spouse or children at home. Others buy an item for themselves – simply because the goods are cheap. The average purchase was in 2017 at 37 EUR.

High customer satisfaction of 97 percent
In 2017, Jysk Analyse conducted a comprehensive survey among airport travelers. The survey shows that not less than 97 percent of the shoppers were either satisfied or very satisfied with the dutyfree shop at Aalborg Airport. Satisfaction with the service in the store was even higher – at 99 percent:

– It is crucial that we continue to work with customer satisfaction throughout the airport. In addition to free parking, our good service is one of our biggest forces. That is what is getting a growing number of Danes to travel from Aalborg Airport, Rikke Mølgaard concludes.
