BTS - fastest growing medium-sized airport in Europe

M. R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava handled a record 212,945 passengers in February. Compared with February last year, when the airport recorded approximately 84,000 passengers on arrivals and departures, this represents a triple-digit year-on-year increase of 151%. It is also the highest number of passengers ever recorded in the month of February in the airport’s 75-year history.

“During the first two months of 2026, M. R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava has already handled more than 408,000 passengers. According to January statistics published by the international airport association ACI Europe, Bratislava Airport became the fastest-growing airport in Europe in the medium-sized airport category. February’s year-on-year growth of 151% further confirms this exceptionally dynamic development, especially considering that airports across Europe are currently growing at an average rate of only around 4%,” said Dušan Novota, CEO and Chairman of the Board of M. R. Štefánik Airport.

Among the most popular destinations in February were direct flights from Bratislava to Barcelona, London, Košice, Alicante, Naples and Málaga.

In the second month of the year, aircraft movements — the total number of take-offs and landings — also increased. A total of 2,088 arrivals and departures were recorded, representing a 31% increase compared with February 2025.

Air cargo transport also continued to grow, rising by 24% to 1,759 tonnes.
