BTS welcomes its millionth passenger three months earlier than last year
It took less than four months for M. R. Štefánik Airport to handle its one-millionth passenger this year. The first major milestone - one million passengers - was reached today, 28 April. The millionth passenger was Ms. Soňa from Olomouc, Czech Republic, who departed this afternoon from Bratislava to Naples with Wizz Air, traveling with a group of seven friends on a sightseeing trip from Naples to the island of Ischia.
“It took less than four months for the airport to handle its first million passengers. Last year, we welcomed the millionth passenger during the summer holidays - on 10 July - and the year before on 26 July. Reaching one million passengers already in April indicates that this year will be truly record-breaking for our airport in terms of passenger numbers,“ said Dušan Novota, CEO of the airport. The capital’s airport expects approximately 4 million arriving and departing passengers this year.
In the first quarter (January to March), the airport handled a record total of 679,041 passengers, and by the end of April 2026, the total number had already surpassed the one-million mark.
Before her departure to Naples, the airport’s CEO presented the milestone passenger with commemorative gifts.
“This is already our second flight from Bratislava this year, whereas in the past we used to fly from nearby airports. What brings us here are the low airfares and the wide range of destinations,” said Ms. Soňa from the Czech Republic before departure from Bratislava Airport.
