Viracopos Airport showcases its world-class infrastructure and new developments for the pharmaceutical sector at Intermodal 2026
The airport is preparing a significant expansion of its cold chain area and solutions under the Smart Pharma Program
Viracopos International Airport (Campinas/São Paulo) showcased its excellent infrastructure and key services during Intermodal South America 2026, the largest logistics event in Latin America, which brought together companies in the sector, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, from April 14th to 16th, at Distrito Anhembi, in São Paulo.
Among the main new features presented by Viracopos Airport is the implementation of a new cargo terminal exclusively dedicated to the import of pharmaceutical products, doubling the capacity of the current cold storage chambers to meet the segment’s growing demand.
Viracopos Airport is the largest air cargo hub in South America and still offers significant expansion opportunities. VCP Pharma, the new terminal dedicated to pharmaceutical imports, will be an important step in positioning Viracopos as the preferred hub for temperature-sensitive products. Around it, the airport site may also include additional logistics warehouses dedicated to the segment, facilitating national distribution by air and road with agility, convenience, and security,” highlighted Maria Fan Viracopos' Commercial Director.
Viracopos processes approximately 1/3 of all cargo that arrives in the country by air, playing a relevant role in the development of the country's international trade.
Proof of its logistical excellence is that the airport was awarded the title of best cargo airport in the world at the 2024 ACW World Air Cargo Awards. In the 2026 edition, it is again a finalist in the Cargo Airport of the Year category, an award ceremony that will be held at the New International Exhibition Center in Shanghai, China, on June 25th. Viracopos is competing in the Regional Cargo Hub category (up to 1 million tons/year) and is the only Brazilian airport in the competition.
Global Connectivity
Strategically located among the country's main highways, the airport is also positioned among the most important Brazilian industrial, commercial, and technological hubs and less than an hour from the capital of São Paulo.
It is connected to the world through the largest Brazilian air cargo network, reducing lead times and increasing predictability — a key factor for sensitive and high-value cargo.
Infrastructure and operational efficiency for the Cold Chain
Viracopos Cargo Terminal (TECA) offers high-performance operational capacity, with customized solutions for clients.
With a total area of 90,000 m², TECA has a security monitoring system, a stacker crane system, specific facilities for live cargo, and strategic positions for cargo aircraft in front of the terminal.
In the Cold Chain segment, it currently has 3,100 m² of dedicated area and 11 cold storage chambers with anterooms and all the necessary temperature ranges to guarantee the maintenance of the temperature of the most diverse types of products, in addition to offering 24-hour temperature control and monitoring.
With the new dedicated area, the airport will double its capacity dedicated to the cold chain in the coming months to meet the growing demand of the segment.
The airport has the IATA CEIV Pharma international recertification, which accredits the terminal to operate under strict global standards of quality, safety, and control of pharmaceutical products.
The dealership will also present the Smart Pharma Program during the event, which provides logistical measures to facilitate service for companies that import and export pharmaceutical products. The program includes customized service, dedicated teams, and prioritization in the loading and unloading of cargo under sanitary surveillance.
Other notable services at TECA include:
- Real-time temperature monitoring: VCP's exclusive system that will be presented at the booth during Intermodal.
- AEO Service: Priority document review and exclusive channel for companies certified as Authorized Economic Operators.
- Transshipment: Facilitated international transit between two countries using VCP as a transshipment point.
