About The Airport

Kitakyushu Airport is a 24 hour airport built on an artificial island in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu.

There are two airports in Fukuoka Prefecture — Fukuoka Airport and Kitakyushu Airport — and the distance between them is 60 km.

The airport is in an intermediate position between the island of Kyushu, which has popular hot spring resorts (including Yufuin, Beppu and Kurokawa), magnificent nature and delicious Japanese food including ramen, sake and shochu, and the Chugoku region, which contains the internationally famous cities of Hiroshima and Yamaguchi.

The airport is ideally located for touring Kyushu and Chugoku; based out of Kokura Station, which is about 30 minutes from the airport by bus, you can easily tour the two regions using bullet train and highway buses. Containing Japanese cultural spots including Kokura Castle, shopping malls and multiple hotels, the area immediately surrounding the airport is popular for tourism.

It is just 60 km from Fukuoka Airport, which is the 4th busiest airport in Japan, so it can serve as a substitute airport when it is difficult to establish a route or increase the number of flights at Fukuoka Airport.
