easyJet launches new route to Lyon from London Southend Airport

Fourteen destinations now offered by easyJet from the ‘Best Airport in Britain’*

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, today (25 June 2015) announced it will operate a new route to Lyon from London Southend Airport.

Flights from London Southend to Lyon will operate weekly throughout this winter, starting 12th December 2015. Tickets are on sale from today from £21.49 per person one-way.**

easyJet is expecting to fly 250 passengers a week to and from the 3rd largest French city, which lies between Paris and Marseille.

On Friday easyJet will launch its first flight to Mahon, Menorca and will operate it twice a week throughout the summer.  easyJet is expected to fly 500 passengers a week between the airport and Mahon, the Balearic islands capital.

Neil Slaven, UK Commercial Manager at easyJet, said “We’re delighted to be adding a new route to easyJet’s range of destinations from Southend. Lyon is perfect for those looking to hit the slopes in the French Alps or taking a city break. This announcement today further strengthens our already comprehensive European flight network. It also highlights our commitment to providing affordable routes for passengers from the airport and we’re sure it will prove extremely popular.”

London Southend Airport Chief Commercial Officer Roger Clements said "We are absolutely delighted that easyJet is now offering another route from London Southend. With excellent access, our own station and car parks right next to the terminal, superb customer service - and now even more fantastic destinations - it's no surprise that more and more people are choosing simply easier Southend."

Lyon really does represent the best things about France; arguably some of the finest cuisine in the world, beautiful classical French architecture, pavement cafes, perfectly manicured parks and a World Heritage listed old town.  Often called the ‘gastronomy capital of the world’, Michelin starred eateries, cafes and bistros abound serving Lyonnaise classics such as Coq au Vin washed down with a glass of red – this is Beaujolais country after all.

This World Heritage listed old town is a delight of Renaissance gems, Gothic cathedrals and medieval churches, with many of the buildings doubling up as boutique hotels and restaurants. You can also expect the usual French assortment of museums, markets and cultural diversions.  This cosmopolitan city has a mix of everything from traditional pubs, wine bars, jazz cafes and even the odd riverboat-cum-nightclub or two, bobbing about on the River Rhone.

easyJet has bases across 11 UK airports and currently has over 700 routes on sale to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Russia – over 390 of which touch the UK. Customers can look forward to taking advantage of new routes from across the UK continuing into the summer, including this new route from London Southend Airport to Lyon.
