Take off for winter sun in Lanzarote

New easyJet route from the ‘Best Airport in Britain’ takes off

It might be raining outside, but from today (Friday 6 November 2015) you can take off to 27 degree heat and sunshine from London Southend Airport

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, commenced a new route to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands this lunchtime. It is their 17th route from London Southend, which was recently named ‘Best Airport in Britain’ by Which? magazine for the 3rd year running.

The 175 passenger’s taking the first flight were greeted with a specially baked large volcano shaped cake, prosecco and ice-cream in the Departure Lounge to mark the occasion.

Flights to Lanzarote are now operating twice weekly throughout the winter, with tickets starting from £33.49 per person one-way.*

easyJet is expecting to fly 600 passengers a week to and from Lanzarote. Neil Slaven, UK Commercial Manager at easyJet, said “We’re delighted to be adding another new route to Lanzarote. With the addition of new affordable routes, we are catering for the demand from passengers in the region who wish to fly from the airport. We are sure Lanzarote will be a firm favourite for those looking for a winter break."

New easyJet routes to Lyon (starting 12 December) and Paris (starting 26 February 2016) are also on their way.

Glyn Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Stobart Aviation that owns London Southend Airport said "We are absolutely delighted that easyJet is now offering another route from London Southend. With excellent access, our own station and car parks right next to the terminal, superb customer service - and now even more fantastic destinations - it's no surprise that more and more people are choosing simply easier Southend."

When it comes to balmy winter temperatures, sun-kissed beaches, fantastic seafood, great bars and nightclubs and spectacular ‘otherworldly’ volcanic scenery, then there is just one word – Lanzarote. In popular, bustling resorts such as Puerto Del Carmen and Coasta Teguise you can enjoy a spot of golf in the morning, hit the beaches in the afternoon and then the bars and clubs in the evening. But it is not all about big, activity-filled resorts – those looking for something a little more low-key should check out places like bohemian Le Caleta de Famara with its stunning cliffs, laid back vibe and extra legroom on the beaches.
