Flybe to take over London-Southend service in 2020 and increase capacity

Flybe will take over the popular London-Southend service from Spring 2020. The airline will increase capacity on the route to 18 flights per week between Glasgow and London-Southend Airport.

The introduction of one of Flybe’s Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 78-seat aircraft coupled with the additional services each week brings an additional 85,000 seats annually for passengers travelling to London.

Journey times are just one hour and 20 minutes from Glasgow, followed by a short 53-minute train service directly into central London’s Liverpool Street station from the airport’s modern, purpose-built station just 100 paces from the terminal.

Paul White, Head of Aviation at Glasgow Airport, said: “Flybe’s decision to take over the London Southend route is fantastic news for Glasgow Airport and will be welcome news for our passengers.

“London continues to be our most popular destination, so the introduction of additional from Flybe next year will provide our both leisure and business passengers with even greater choice when visiting the UK’s capital and one of the most exiting city destinations in the world.”

Flybe will next year complete a full re-brand as part of the extended Virgin family under the new name of Virgin Connect.
