Eurowings flights from Newcastle to Berlin take off

Eurowings, Lufthansa Group’s value airline, has launched new direct flights from Newcastle Airport to Berlin.
The first flight departed on Thursday, 1 May, operating twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday.
The new service provides passengers with even more choice to visit one of Europe’s most popular destinations, with Berlin recognised as one of the best European city breaks by The Times, The Telegraph and CondeNast Traveller last year.
Berlin is home to historic monuments such as the Brandenburg Gate, has a diverse and delicious food scene and families can enjoy a vast array of attractions, including Berlin Zoo and river cruises.
The addition of Berlin expands Eurowings’ presence at Newcastle Airport, complementing the airline's existing year-round service from Newcastle to Düsseldorf.
The Airport celebrated the launch of the new route by surprising passengers with drinks, treats and Berlin city guides at check-in and in the gate.
Leon McQuaid, Director of Aviation Development at Newcastle Airport, said: “Berlin has always been a popular destination for the North East travelling public and we have received lots of customer feedback asking for a direct service - so it is fantastic Eurowings has launched this exciting new route.
“We were delighted to welcome passengers onboard the first flight and we are confident the service will be hugely popular this summer.”
Flights can be booked at www.eurowings.com or with a local travel agent.
